Hot on the heels of yesterday’s 360 update, Sony’s network operations director Eric Lempel told 1up that the Playstation 3 will also get Facebook integration soon. How soon, you ask? How about TODAY.

“I’ll just say that it’s been in the works for quite some time,” he said in an interview with 1UP.

“It’s never been easy to just integrate new content into the PlayStation Network. We’ve had this planned for a while now.”

Whether or not they actually had “planned it for a while” or if they’re just trying to steal away some of Microsoft’s thunder is anyone’s guess, but they are taking a slightly different approach to the whole matter.

According to the official Playstation blog, instead of going the 360 route (i.e., making a full Facebook application), Sony will use the service to share trophy and Playstation Store information on the fly, so if you buy something or unlock a trophy it can be set to tell all your friends that you are a giant nerd. Not only a giant nerd; a giant LAZY nerd, since it does it automagically. Additionally, Sony has given some developers the tools to incorporate game specific updates, much like Uncharted 2 did with Twitter.

The 3.10 update also includes minor updates to the friends list and photos.
