Dishonored, developed by Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda, gives us a simple premise: do you want to stealthily stab dudes in a steampunk setting worked on by a designer of Deus Ex and Thief fame? If your answer is “yes,” then watch this trailer. If your answer is “no,” you might just want to stop playing video games.

This trailer shows what appears to be various areas of the main city of the game, Dunwall, replete with walking mech patrols, rat hordes, and tons of first person hand-to-hand combat. Also, there’s a horrible plague killing the townsfolk, which is why it’s a great idea to throw the bodies into the river. It’s all looking to be shaping up nicely.

The story, as told by the official game site, is this:

You are the once-trusted bodyguard of the beloved Empress. Framed for her murder, you become an infamous assassin, known only by the disturbing mask that has become your calling card. In a time of uncertainty, when the city is being besieged by plague and ruled by an oppressive government armed with neo-industrial technologies, dark forces conspire to bestow upon you, abilities beyond those of any common man – but at what cost? The truth behind your betrayal is as murky as the waters surrounding the city, and the life you once had is gone forever.

Look for the game to be on shelves on October 9th of this year. I will probably be one of the first in line, but only if I get to control those rats.
