Having not been in the loop at all on this one, hearing today that indie developer Stabyourself (really, that’s the name) came out of nowhere to release a Mario and Portal mashup called MariO made me lift an eyebrow. “Who are these people, and what kind of crazy virus to they want me to download?” I thought. Well, it turns out “these people” are a couple of dudes from some place called “Europe,” and the “crazy virus” is fun. FUN.
MariO is exactly what my skillful use of mathematics in this title says it is: they have given Mario a portal gun. That’s all you need to know. Go download this game. If you are still sitting on the fence, there is also a level editor, coop play for up to four players (and four portal guns), and hats. HATS. Just when I thought I could get away from TF2, too. And if all of that still has you turning up your nose, the game is free and runs on PC, Mac, and Linux. You really have no one to blame but yourself if you don’t have this on your computer. Give it a try.
I will say, though, that I have had some trouble with the game freezing up a bit, but considering the game was made from scratch by two dudes and the code wasn’t finalized until yesterday, I will let that slide. There surely will be an update for things once the public gets their hands on it.
