Charity Game Showcase: The Last Ninja
by Garret in Charity News, Games on April 7, 2010
On Tuesay we discussed the first game for our event, Ninja Spirit, a shuriken-throwing, kill-your-face side-scroller. Today we will be discussing The Last Ninja, a game of exploration and puzzle solving (and sometimes combat) that was originally released on the Commodore 64 in 1987.

Charity Game Showcase: Ninja Spirit
by Garret in Charity News, Games on April 6, 2010

As we go about beginning the process of getting another event put together, we thought it would be wise to discuss some of these games before we actually begin the show. Unlike with Mario, not all of these ninja games will be universally known among the masses. Hell, even I haven’t heard of some of them and I am a huge nerd. And that is another point: also unlike the Mario Marathon, about half of these games are games that none of us have played. It should make for an exciting time. But I digress, LET’S TALK ABOUT NINJA SPIRIT.

Sharp Display is Sharp
by Garret in Gaming News on April 5, 2010
Ever since Nintendo announced that their new DS will incorporate some sort of 3D viewing technology, the world, or a small subsection of the world (read: nerds), has been clamoring to find out how the new device will actually show you games in THREE DEEE.
Well, if the video above has anything to say about it, Sharp could potentially be making the new display. Forged in the fires of Mt. Doom, these displays are able to show both three whole dimensions in addition to the paltry two dimensions that we as humans have lived our poor lives viewing for so long. The displays also have the ability to be touch screens, so there is the potential for Nintendo to use these in their new fancypants handheld. The video, however, does not show any stylus input for the displays, just dirty, dirty fingers. No stylus support would mean no backwards compatibility which would mean this technology wouldn’t be used which would mean Nintendo would have to use their original plans: Unicorn dust.

We’re Back!
by Garret in Charity News on April 2, 2010

After an incredible hiatus (in all respects way too long), we have finally returned, dusted off the consoles, and have begun preparing for our second event. We want to thank everyone who helped us make our first event such a success!
If you haven’t landed on the home page before seeing this post, let me recap what we have currently planned:
- NINJAS! If the banner above didn’t tip you off, this time all our games will be centered around or have within them at least one (1) ninja. Most of the games will be rather obscure, so we will simply have to see how that goes, but we are very excited for the inclusion of great titles like Muramasa and Brave Fencer Musashi.
- Give Aways! This is something that we wanted to do during our first event but could not put it all together in time. We are hoping to rectify that this summer.
- This summer?! But of course! We are currently trying to nail down everyone’s schedule, and we will announce the dates soon, but we are looking towards having the event on the weekend of May 21-23, May 28-30, or June 4-6.
That is the long and short of it at the moment. What we do not have, at the moment, is the charity for which we will be donating to. If you happen to know of a good charity, please leave something in the comments. Child’s Play was a great charity to donate to last year, but for this event we need to find something new.
Thanks again, everyone! We look forward to seeing you all soon!
